On Thursday, September 3rd, Jaspreet is going to present a lecture titled GPGPU Programming. It will be a presentation on how graphics card can be used for general purpose, numerical calculation.
Why would you ever need that?
Today's graphics card have hundreds of powerful, generic, parallel processors. In some cases, they can offer performance 10s, 100s, or 1000s times of the CPU. In a way, a graphics card is like a little super-computer, which YOU can buy for under $200. They are perfect for processing images, analyzing massive amounts of data and performing simulation. They are used today to predict climate changes, simulate biological molecules, power next generation of MRI scanners, enhance X-Ray imaging, and much more.
If you want to learn more about GPGPU programming, come and listen to Jaspreet's presentation. It will be held at 5:30 pm, September 3rd, at the shop.
